Borderlands Movie Rigger Who Worked on Claptrap Accuses Lionsgate of Snubbing His Credit

A rigger who spent "five consecutive months" working on Claptrap for the widely panned Borderlands: The Movie has accused Lionsgate of snubbing his credit.

As reported by PC Gamer, freelance senior rigger Robbie Reid posted on X/Twitter to allege neither he nor the artist who modeled Claptrap — Borderlands' most iconic character who is played by Jack Black in the film — were listed in the credits.

"This time three years ago I was rigging the CG asset of Claptrap for the Borderlands movie," Reid said. "I worked on him for five consecutive months. Neither I, nor the artist who modelled him (who I worked with the entire time), got a credit for the film."

Reid went on to note this is "a common problem in the industry" and said he felt "exceptionally lucky" this was the first time he'd experienced it, but "it just stings that the one to finally break the streak was the last film I worked on at a studio. And for such a significant character too."

IGN has reached out to Lionsgate for comment.

Borderlands has had a rough start, debuting to poor reviews across the board. IGN's evaluation gave it a 3/10, saying: "Borderlands is a catastrophic disappointment that plays like hacked-to-pieces studio slop, betraying everything fans adore about Gearbox Software’s franchise in derivative, regrettable fashion."

Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day.
