Godzilla Is 'Earth's Vengeance on Humanity' in New Comic Series | IGN Fan Fest 2025

An all-new Godzilla connected universe is rising from IDW comics. Titled simply "Godzilla," it's an original take on the King's origins and introduces kaiju-powered super humans.Written by Tim Seeley with art by Nikola Cizmesija, the story begins in 1954 much like the original film. This time, according to the official plot synopsis, "experimentation with a mysterious energy source known as Kai-Sei awakened Godzilla and a host of immortal kaiju." This led to decades of monster attacks and the creation of an American G-Force to fight back.G-Force is a small group of eccentric characters, and fans will be delighted to see Jet Jaguar as part of the team on loan from G-Force Japan. Here his tech hasn't been upgraded since the '90s so he's a little slow and his only way to speak is by singing his '90s theme song.Jacen is the powered-up teenager of the team, imbued with the power of Kai-Sei and actually able to punch kaiju. Seeley describes him as a combination of One-Punch Man, the Hulk, and Doctor Manhattan.Godzilla isn't connected to any previous continuity in comics or film. In fact, it's launching a new continuity that IDW will explore with companion series. Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone explores an area where America tried to recreate the experiments that led to the creation of Godzilla back in 1954 -- with disastrous results. There is now a portion of the United States that is completely irradiated, and that's the Deadzone. It's a contained apocalypse filled with mutants and monsters, and the hero of this story ties back into Godzilla. The other new series, Starship Godzilla, is set in outer space and involves pirates and alien races that have shown up in various Godzilla films. Seeley said: "If you love the cosmic side of Godzilla and Space Godzilla and the Xiliens and Planet X and everything like that, we've got a book for you."Godzilla #1 is on sale July 23rd. Jacen is the powered-up teenager of the team, imbued with the power of Kai-Sei and actually able to punch kaiju. Seeley describes him as a combination of One-Punch Man, the Hulk, and Doctor Manhattan.
