Lenovo Slashes Up to $770 Off Its Two Most Popular Legion Gaming PCs for Black Friday

Ahead of Black Friday, Lenovo is offering some major discounts on two configurations of its popular Lenovo Legion Tower 5 Gen 8 gaming PC. The RTX 4070 Super model is on sale for $1,309.99 and the RTX 4070 Ti Super model is on sale for $1,529.99. These are both excellent gaming-worthy rigs. Choose the RTX 4070 Super gaming PC if you're intending to game in 1080p or 1440p. Upgrade to the RTX 4070 Ti Super gaming PC if you are set on gaming in ultra high-definition 4K.

Lenovo Legion Tower 5i Gaming PC

The Lenovo Legion Tower 5 Gen 8 gaming PCs are Ryzen Edition models with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, your choice of GeForce RTX 4070 Super or RTX 4070 Ti Super GPUs, 16GB-32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB SSD. The AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU boasts a max boost clock of 5.3GHz with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a 32MB L3 cache. It's cooled by a robust 120mm tower heatsink fan, which is more than adequate cooling because the Ryzen 7 is a lot more power efficient and generates less heat than a comparable Intel chip. There are three additional 120mm system fans to maintain proper ambient temps, both for the CPU and the rest of the components.

Go with the RTX 4070 Super model for 1080p and 1440p gaming

The RTX 4070 Super is the best graphics card for most people; it's not exorbitantly priced, and it's powerful enough to run games at up to 4K resolution (although 1440p is its sweet spot). It's about 10%-15% faster than the 4070 (non-Super). Like all RTX 40 series cards, the RTX 4070 Super supports DLSS 3.0, which gives it an edge in performance over similarly priced AMD GPUs. I wouldn't prioritize ray tracing performance at this GPU tier... focus more on maximizing fps instead.

Go with the RTX 4070 Ti Super model for 1440p gaming

The RTX 4070 Ti Super is a second gen RTX 40 series GPU; it's about 10% more powerful than the RTX 4070 Ti and 15-25% faster than the RTX 4070 Super. This is a great card for both 1440p and 4K gaming. The VRAM count is upped to 16GB compared the the RTX 4070 Ti's 12GB, which means it has the same amount of VRAM as the RTX 4080 Super. With this level of GPU power, enabling ray tracing is also a very real possibility in many games.

Why Choose Lenovo?

People like the fact that Lenovo does not use very many proprietary components in their rigs, so Legion gaming PCs are generally DIY upgrade-friendly with easily obtainable off-the-shelf components. Lenovo gaming rigs generally also utilize solid cooling, especially for the CPU, even if you opt for the less expensive air cooled option. Check out our best budget gaming PCs of 2024 to see what other alternatives we recommend. We also reviewed the bigger full-tower Legion Tower 7 and recommended it. The Legion Tower 5 is essentially its mid-tower sized sibling with a very similar airflow design (albeit with less fans given its small stature) and can host nearly the same components.

Looking for more options? Dell is currently hosting a pretty excellent Early Black Friday Sale with plenty of competitively priced gaming PCs. Lenovo appears to be out Dell when it comes specifically to RTX 4070 Super and 4070 Ti Super models, but if you're looking for a more powerful (and more expensive) or less powerful (and more budget friendly) PC, Dell is currently offering better options.
