MTG Aetherdrift Preorder Guide: Where to Find Booster Boxes, Bundles, and Commander Decks

Get ready to start your engines and crew your vehicles. Wizards of the Coast takes inspiration from the world of professional racing for the newest Magic: The Gathering expansion, Aetherdrift. With aesthetics that remind me a little bit of Tron, Aetherdrift introduces plenty of artifact vehicles as well as two new mechanics, "Speed” and “Exhaust." The new expansion is also multiversal, tying in existing Magic planes as the "Death Race" crosses Avishkar, Amonkhet, and Muraganda.

As with any trading card game, I highly recommend checking out your local game shop for booster packs and event exclusives (like Prerelease Sets). If you’re new to Magic, that’s also the best place to go to ask questions and learn more about expansions and game modes you might be interested in.

That said, if you’re looking to buy in bulk, the retailing giants have you covered. Releasing on February 14, here’s everything you can preorder from the MTG Aetherdrift expansion:

Everything You Can Preorder from MTG Aetherdrift

If you're looking for a little more guidance, I break down what's included in each Aetherdrift product below.

Aetherdrift Booster Boxes

You have two options for bulk-buying Aetherdrift boosters: a Play Booster Box containing 30 Play Booster Packs, or the pricier Collector Booster Box containing 12 Collector Booster Packs. Both types of Booster Boxes come with foil “Box Topper” cards.

If you’re looking for a head start at collecting cards for a new or upgraded deck, Play Boosters are the way to go. Though, I will note, previous Play Booster Boxes for even recent expansions like Duskmourn contained 36 Play Boosters instead of just 30. If you’re willing to make the extra investment to find alternate art and Mythic foils, I won’t judge you for making the call on the Collector Box. We’ve all done it.

Aetherdrift Commander Decks

The Aetherdrift MTG expansion is coming with two Commander Decks, both already up for preorder. Commander Decks are ready-to-play for the Commander game mode, which has become increasingly popular, in part because you can play with more than two people. Commander Decks are a pretty cost-effective way to pick up 100 cards you can immediately start playing with, and the entry point I’d recommend to most Magic beginners. With a pre-constructed deck, you’re guaranteed a foil commander and a set of cards that work well together. These decks also come with a Collector Booster Sample Pack for the fun of it.

The first Aetherdrift Commander is Saheeli, Radiant Creator, a Human Artificer leading an Energy-oriented Red/Green/Blue deck called, well, “Living Energy.” The second Commander is Temmet, Naktamun’s Will, heading up what appears to be a Zombie-oriended Black/Blue/White deck called “Eternal Might.” In preorders, both Commander Decks are available for around $50, with a bundle including not just one but two copies of each Deck also available for $180. Unlike Booster Packs, you can check out the full Commander Decklists here to know exactly what you’re paying for.

Aetherdrift Bundles

Bundles are another type of MTG product that typically include a combination of booster packs, land cards, and fun accessories. The “flagship” bundle releasing for Aetherdrift leans into the expansion’s racing theme with the title “Finish Line.” Here’s what that bundle, currently priced at $80, includes:

  • 2 Collector Boosters
  • 6 Play Boosters
  • 3 Extended-Art Cards (alternative art exclusive to the Finish Line bundle)
  • 2 Foil Box Topper Cards
  • 20 Foil Land Cards, including 5 Full-Art Land Cards
  • 1 Foil Card Storage Box
  • 1 Special Spindown Life Counter
  • 5 Mana Symbol Stickers
  • 2 Reference Cards

And here’s what you’ll find in the other Aetherdrift Bundle, currently on sale for a little under $50:

  • 9 Aetherdrift MTG Play Boosters
  • 1 Traditional Foil Alt-Art Card
  • 40 Land Cards (20 foil, 20 nonfoil)
  • 1 Spindown Life Counter
  • 1 Card Storage Box
  • 2 Reference Cards

Individual Aetherdrift Booster Packs

You can pick up Collector’s Boosters from Amazon for about $25, while Play Boosters are available at retailers like GameStop. For individual booster packs, I cannot recommend your local game store enough.
