October Prime Day 2024: What Deals Should You Expect?
It's another Amazon Prime Day.
Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days sale is now less than a week away and we are already seeing some pretty exciting early deals from across every major retailer. I've been covering October Prime Day since Amazon first launched this event back in 2022, and so far this year is shaping up to be one of the biggest fall sales the online retailer has ever put on.
Not only is Amazon having its sale next week, pretty much every other retailer is offering a counter sale to compete with the fall Prime Day. If you're hoping to find a discount ahead of Black Friday this year, now is a great time to do so.
Amazon October Prime Day Start Times
Amazon's October Prime Day officially begins on Tuesday, October 8 at 12:01 a.m. PT / 3:01 a.m. ET and runs through October 9 at midnight. Amazon has also already launched some early discounts on its own devices, clothing brands, and various other categories, so you can start shopping those deals today. Similar to Prime Day, you will need to have an Amazon Prime membership to shop the full sale. Although Amazon's fall Prime Day sale is a fairly new thing, you can expect the other big retailers to offer similar prices. Walmart announced a competing sale for the same start date as Amazon, and Target has also entered the fray with its Circle Week sale set for October 6-12. Although we have not yet received an announcement from Best Buy, you can likely except some sort of sale to drop around these same times as well. Amazon's October Prime Day and July Prime Day are pretty much the same. The main differences you'll find during the fall sale is what deals are actually included. You can likely expect less major discounts on high-end tech items and more deals on every-day essentials and personal buys. Things like clothes, toys, smart speakers, and gaming accessories will likely have the lowest prices during the two-day eventWill other retailers be offering sales?
How is October Prime Day different than July Prime Day?
The Best Early Deals and Discount Predictions
Although we don't know exactly what deals we will see during October Prime Day this year, we can get a pretty good idea of what to expect from the press release as well as the discounts from last year. There are also already a lot of things on sale ahead of the event, so we've included the best early deals form the Prime Big Deal Days sale.
Amazon Devices
First of all, you can expect Amazon device deals to be some of the biggest highlights. We are already seeing those discounts on Fire TV devices now and we will likely see more as the day approaches. Most notably, last year's fall Prime Day had the lowest prices on Kindle devices of the year. So if you're waiting for a Kindle deal, it should be a good time to buy.
Headphones and Earbuds
The Amazon press release for the event also mentions electronics brands like Beats and Samsung, which will likely translate to popular deals on headphones and wireless earbuds. Both of these categories were big sellers last year, and this sale is one of the best times to buy headphones overall. There is even already a discount on Amazon Echo Buds if you don't mind going with the Amazon brand.
We also expect to see some pretty good discounts on LEGO sets, which has been a common theme for Amazon during every sale so far this year. The October sale is most likely going to be another great time to buy LEGO sets and other popular toy brands. Target has also announced that it will be offering 30% off select LEGO sets during its Circle Week sale, so you'll likely be able to take advantage of those deals early. We've already found a pretty incredible sale on Harry Potter LEGO sets happening early if you can't wait for the event to begin. Although October Prime Day isn't necessarily the best time to buy video games, it tends to be a pretty good time to find discounts on popular gaming accessories. You can usually find a pretty good deal on budget gaming headsets or discounts on PS5 controllers early on in the sale. We have also found that Amazon almost always has a deal on storage upgrades, making it a great time to pick up an SSD. Outside of the smaller gaming accessories, you will also be able to find deals on the Meta Quest 3 as retailers have already been dropping the price with the announcement of the new Meta Quest 3S. As with just about any sales event, October Prime Day is an overall good time to buy a TV. Amazon will have the steepest discounts on its own Fire TVs, but there will also be discounts across pretty much every major brand. If you're looking to purchase a high-end 4K TV, you may still want to wait for Black Friday prices, but if you're in the market for a budget option, we recommend taking a look at the selection during this time. Amazon is one of the best places to buy books and one of the best places to buy manga online. This means they are also one of the only places you can consistently find deals on physical copies of popular books and comics. During Prime Day in July, we saw some of the lowest prices of the year on book sets, illustrated editions, and collectible hardcovers. This year, these deals are already starting before the event begins. Considering how close it is to Black Friday shopping season, you can also expect more deals on everyday items than you'd see from other Amazon sales. Things like batteries, home products, beauty products, and even some grocery items will most likely have significant discounts. This sale is a good time to stock up and save on things you'll need before the holiday season.LEGO Sets

Should You Wait for Black Friday Sales?
One of the biggest issues with Amazon's October sale is its overall proximity to Black Friday 2024. We will start seeing Black Friday deals dropping sometime in late October, and many of these discounts will likely be some of the best of the year so far. Because of this, you will likely want to hold off on making any of your biggest purchases until November. Things like video game consoles and TVs will likely be priced better as we get closer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You can see our guide to Prime Day vs. Black Friday for more info.
