RGG Summit Showcase to Reveal Next Yakuza/Like a Dragon Game in September

Yakuza/Like a Dragon developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will reveal the next game in the franchise in an RGG Summit showcase on September 20, 2024.

The developer announced the showcase during a livestream today, August 28, and confirmed the next game in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon franchise will be revealed there. It will take place at 3am Pacific / 6am Eastern / 11am UK.

Though RGG only launched its last big game, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, in January 2024, it's known for relasing an almost constant stream of new titles.

In the last five years, for example, RGG released Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Judgment Remastered, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, alongside three Super Monkey Ball Games and an enhanced remaster of Virtua Fighter 5. That's 12 games in total.

It's unknown if this new game (or potentially games) is the next mainline Yakuza/Like a Dragon entry, another spin-off game like Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, another remake like Yakuza: Kiwami or Like a Dragon: Ishin, another game from spin-off series Judgment, or something else entirely.

Publisher Sega did register a trademark for something called Yakuza Wars earlier in August, however, and RGG has already said fans will be "surprised" by the reveal.

It originally said a full reveal would happen at Tokyo Game Show, which takes place between September 26 and September 29, but it seems fans are getting a first look a little bit earlier.

In our 9/10 review of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, IGN said: "Sprawling, enthralling, and packed with dynamic brawling, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth isn’t just the best turn-based Like a Dragon game, it’s one of the greatest games in the entire series."
