About the Freebie 2TB Samsung 990 Pro
The 990 Pro is Samsung's fastest PCIe 4.0 M.2 solid state drive. Compared to the 980 Pro that it replaces, the 990 Pro has been updated with Samsung's newest Pascal controller and 7th gen TLC NAND flash chips, which are manufactured in-house. It boasts sequential speeds of 7,450MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write and random speeds of 1400K read and 1550K IOPS write, which is up to 50% faster per watt than the 980 Pro. The 990 Pro will be one of your best options as a boot drive for your gaming PC, and the 2TB model is currently the best compromise between capacity and price point.
For console gamers, the Samsung 990 Pro also happens to be one of the best SSDs for the PlayStation 5. In fact, performance-wise, it's overkill since the stock PS5 SSD only has speeds of up to 5,600MB/s. This 990 Pro comes pre-equipped with a low-profile aluminum heatsink that's guaranteed to fit in both the PS5 and PS5 Slim consoles. It's also backed by a five-year warranty; by the time your warranty runs out, you might have already moved onto the PS6.
49" Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) Gaming Monitor
The Odyssey OLED G9 replaces the Neo G9 as Samsung's highest end Odyssey G-series gaming monitor. There's a bigger 57" model available, but the 49" G9 offers more than enough screen real estate for the vast majority of gamers. A 49" monitor is essentially like having two 27" QHD monitors placed next to each other, but without the bezels and sporting the exact same resolution, hence D(ouble)QHD. Unlike the Neo G9, which uses a Mini-LED panel, the OLED G9 uses a quantum dot OLED panel. OLED panels boast individual self-lit OLEDs that can turn on and off independently of each other, which allows for true blacks and incredible contrast ratios. The image quality, especially in HDR, is far better than what you'll see with traditional IPS, VA, or TN panels. OLED monitors also feature incredible fast response times (usually 0.03ms or less), which means ghosting or smearing is a thing of the past.
34" Odyssey OLED G8 (G85SD) Gaming Monitor
The Odyssey OLED G85SD also features a quantum dot OLED panel but for $400 less. The smaller but still respectable 34" screen size fits more desk setups, the WQHD resolution is less demanding and thus requires a less expensive GPU to run smoothly, and the 175Hz refresh rate should satisfy all but the most FPS-oriented gamers. Note that of the three monitors listed, the G85SD is the only one that doesn't have official G-Sync compatiblity, although that shouldn't matter if you have a GPU that can run games at a high enough framerate. Also, most FreeSync Premium monitors are still able to run in G-Sync compatibility mode without much issue.
In our Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 review (the older G85SB model), Matthew Smith wrote that "the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 is a masterful OLED monitor that delivers all the strengths I’ve come to expect from the technology and minimizes its weaknesses. HDR performance remains so-so, but SDR content looks spectacular, and the monitor’s attractive, durable design feels well worth the price. The OLED G8 exceeds even Alienware’s AW3423DWF and is an obvious pick for anyone looking to buy a 34-inch ultrawide monitor."
32" Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD) Gaming Monitor
The Odyssey G80SD is the only Samsung monitor that features both a native 4K resolution and OLED panel. That means the G80SD has the highest pixel density of the three monitors listed at 130ppi (the other two monitors have 110ppi). Like the OLED G9, this monitor also boasts a 240Hz refresh rate and has official G-Sync certification. Unlike most other OLED gaming "monitors," the G80SD has smart apps built in so it can double up as a regular TV as well as a gaming monitor.
Something to keep in mind is that 4K monitors require a pretty powerful GPU. 4K resolution has 2.25 times more pixels than QHD; if you want to play games in 4K, especially at frame rates of up to 240fps, you'll want a gaming PC equipped with an GeForce RTX 4070 at the minimum. If your PC is equipped with something as powerful as an RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4090, or RX 7900XTX, then this monitor would be the perfect complement.
