Target Slashes 45% Off the LEGO Atari 2600 Video Game Console for Black Friday
Paying only 5 cents per brick for a very cool 18+ build.
LEGO has been making some excellent sets for gamers lately, and one of the coolest is the LEGO Icons Atari 2600 Video Game Console 10306. It normally retails for $239.99, but Target just cut 45% off the price as part of its Early Black Friday Sale. Right now, it sits at $134.39 with free shipping. This is the lowest price we've ever seen, with the previous lowest price being $160 back in September. You're only paying about 5 cents per brick, which is an absolutely fantastic deal, but I doubt this item will stay in stock for much longer.
45% Off LEGO Icons Atari 2600 10306
The LEGO Icons Atari 2600 10306 recreates one of gaming's most vintage consoles in LEGO form. The LEGO model is larger than the actual console, measuring in at 19"x23"x5" (the actual console measured 13.6"x9"x3.5"). It's comprised of 2,532 pieces and the build is intended for ages 18+.
The console has a lot of neat features like retro control levers with connectors, a single working joystick, and a slot where you can insert video game cartridges. Speaking of the cartridges, the set comes with three replicas of classic Atari games: Centipede, Asteroids, and Adventure. You can also build 3D dioramas depicting iconic scenes from each of the three games, including a spaceship shooting at asteroids, a castle and a centipede with mushroom builds.
We built the LEGO Atari 2600 ourselves back when it was first released. In the article, Kevin Wong wrote that "[This LEGO set] is an appropriate mirroring of what the Atari 2600 accomplished. Saddled by technical limitations, its developers created the impression of an alien space battle, or a monster invasion, or a labyrinth of booby traps, with little more than lines, dots, beeps, and a single joystick. And then, they trusted our imaginations to carry us the rest of the way. It's easy to look at now – in an era of 4K graphics and 14-button controllers – and wonder how such a thing could have captured people's attention. But everything had to start somewhere. And this set is a lovely tribute to that humble origin."
This set would look pretty amazing next to the LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System 71374, another set featuring a classic video game console from a bygone era. If you're looking for more really cool video game-themed builds, the LEGO Mario & Yoshi 71438 pays homage to the classic side-scrolling Mario platformers, and the LEGO Piranha Plant 71426 doubles up as a hidden piggy bank for your coins. Check out our Black Friday guide for tips on how to prepare and deals we expect to see. There will certainly be plenty more LEGO sets on sale on Friday, November 29, although I doubt that this particular set will be any less expensive.
