The Biggest Upcoming Releases and Sales to Check Out in October
A lot of cool new stuff this month.
October has arrived and spooky season is now in full swing. All month long we are expecting a slew of exciting new releases in just about every category on top of some of the biggest sales of the year. With Black Friday looming over the horizon, you can expect brands and retailers to start offering up their holiday gift selections for 2024.
To help you navigate all of the new releases and upcoming sales events happening this month, we've put together a handy guide of what's going to be worth buying in October.
Biggest October Releases
Upcoming Video Game Releases
With the release of Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and the Starfield: Shattered Space DLC at the end of September, the video game release schedule is starting to heat up. Some of the biggest games to look forward to in October are spread out through the month. The first big game to keep an eye out for is the Silent Hill 2 remake arriving on October 8. After that, the new Dragon Ball game, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, arrives on October 11. Later in the month marks the arrival of Super Mario Party Jamboree for Switch and Sonic X Shadow Generations for all platforms. Finally, on Halloween, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is coming to PS5, Xbox, and Switch.
Upcoming 4K and Blu-ray Releases
For the Blu-ray collectors, October is set to be another great month for physical movies. Fans of horror can now officially buy the new 4K edition of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and similar versions of The Ring and Land of the Dead will release later this month. On October 8, the first seasons of popular Netflix animated shows Arcane and Castlevania: Nocturne will also become available. Finally, the Deadpool & Wolverine steelbook is finally up for preorder and will be available starting on October 22.
Upcoming LEGO Releases
Another month means another round of LEGO sets arriving. Some of the biggest new releases are video game releated and include the all-new LEGO Fortnite sets and the new LEGO Super Mario World set we already got to build. Quite a few new Halloween LEGO sets are now available, including LEGO Wednesday Addams and LEGO Wicked options.
Upcoming Comic Book Releases
October is looking to be one of the biggest months for comic book releases all year. There are new DC, Marvel, and Star Wars comics launching all month long that fans of those franchises can look forward to. DC All In and The Absolute Universe are both out now and Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Insurgency Rising is arriving later this month. There's even an upcoming Alien: Romulus companion comic arriving on October 23.
PS5 Pro Preorders
Last month we saw the first round of preorders for the PS5 Pro go live from PlayStation direct. This included the very popular 30th anniversary edition of the console, which sold out very quickly. If you missed your chance to pick up the new console during the first round of preorders, there's actually another round coming at retailers starting on October 10.
Biggest Upcoming Sales
Target Circle Week (October 6-12)
Target will be kicking off the fall sales season with Circle Week. This is a week-long event dedicated to daily deals on every-day items, groceries, appliances, toys, and more. The sale starts on Sunday, October 6 and will run through the following Sunday. This sale coincides with two other fall sales happening this month.
Amazon October Prime Day (October 8-9)
Amazon is once again offering an October Prime Day sale in 2024 and we already have quite a few details about the sale. You can expect discounts on electronics, home items, LEGO sets, and probably loads of other things. Amazon has already started releasing deals on its own devices as well as discounts on Audible subscriptions, but the main sale will be a 48-hour event starting on October 8.
Walmart Deals (October 8-13)
Following Amazon's own October Prime Day announcement, Walmart announced a competing fall sale. The Walmart Deals event will start on October 8 and run through October 13. Walmart also included a preview of this sale, which includes a mix of home appliances, toys, and LEGO sets. It also stated that Walmart+ subscribers will get early access to this sale starting October 8.
