The Lucky Devils Reunites a Winning Team at Image Comics
The creators of the excellent Image Comics series Curse Words are reuniting for a new project called The Lucky Devils, and we've got an exclusive preview of the first issue.
2025 is shaping up to be a busy year for the ever-prolific Charles Soule. Not only is Soule spearheading a new Star Wars series starring Kylo Ren, he's also reuniting with Curse Words co-creator Ryan Browne for a new Image Comics series called The Lucky Devils.
IGN can exclusively debut a new extended preview of The Lucky Devils #1. Get a closer look in the slideshow gallery below:
The Lucky Devils is written by Soule and illustrated by Browne, with the first issue featuring a variant cover by Frank Miller. Here's Image's official description of the series:
THE LUCKY DEVILS is a nine issue miniseries about two rebellious demons who decide to start a revolution in Hell—and the two ordinary, 20-something humans they're going to manipulate to do it. A cheeky, satirical look at Good and Evil, THE LUCKY DEVILS explores Faustian bargains and temptation in a rip-roaring, hilarious new way.
"The Lucky Devils... I'm having such a blast telling this story. I think Ryan and I both are," Soule tells IGN. "The book lets us take a universally recognized piece of folklore—in this case, 'shoulder devils'—and flip it on its head. That's one of our favorite things to do! I get to build out a completely new mythological infrastructure for Hell and deals-with-the-devil, and Ryan gets to draw creepy little imps crawling all over their humans trying to get them to do bad stuff. The story's incredibly fun and wild on its surface, like Gremlins meets Good Omens, but also takes a pretty deep dive into examining the reasons good people can want to do bad things—and why, sometimes, they go ahead and do them. I can't wait to see what people think."
"Great to be back in the saddle at Image building a new fantastical world with my old bud Charles!" Browne says. "Using every bit of skill and brain power we have to make something strange yet poignant that'll make you say 'How the hell did they come up with this crazy stuff?' and 'This comic is so powerful that it's scrambled my cognitive abilities!' followed by 'Where did I park my car again?"
The Lucky Devils #1 will be released on January 8, 2025.
In other comic books news, Invincible is returning to comics with a new Battle Beast series, and Godzilla: Heist pays tribute to classic heist movies.
