Turok is back, but the famous dinosaur hunter is looking a little different. At Thursday's Game Awards, Saber Interactive officially announced Turok: Origins — a "new evolution" of the classic dinosaur-hunting franchise that first debuted on the Nintendo 64 and PC in 1997.
In a marked shift for the franchise, Turok: Origins will feature third-person action instead of being a first-person shooter. Additionally, multiplayer will be fully integrated into its main campaign, with Turok supporting up to three players via co-op.
Turok: Origins' title hero will don a high-tech "biomorphic suit" that allows him to use DNA captured from enemies, which grant him abilities like the power to summon lightning. It will feature semi-open environments, with different planets connected through portals. Saber Interactive is also promising some "pretty epic boss fights."
Turok: Origins is under development for the Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5 and will utilize Unreal Engine 5. It stems from a short string of sequels released around the turn of the century by long-defunct publisher Acclaim, after which it was rebooted on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in 2008 by the equally defunct Disney Interactive (under its extremely short-lived Touchstone Games label). While a planned sequel was canceled following the shuttering of developer Propaganda Games, the original N64-era Turok trilogy has since been remastered for modern devices over the past decade by game preservation specialists Nightdive Studios.
Turok: Origins does not yet have a release date. You can read everything else announced at The Game Awards 2024 right here as well as our complete list of winners.
